Join the Kindess and Compassion Club

The Kindness and Compassion club will have its first meeting on Monday September 15th from 4 to 5 pm in Mrs. Safieh’s room. It is believed that if one person shows compassion it could start a chain reaction that will spread all around our school! So if you would like to be an inspiration to your classmates and friends, this is the club for you! Ask your teacher for a permission slip today!


UNM Study Opportunity for 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Students
Attention third, fourth, and fifth grade students! UNM has chosen MLK to participate in a before and after school program to work on interpersonal skills, problem solving and team building. CLICK HERE to learn more about this exciting opportunity. 
Gold Lot Pick Up Procedures
To ensure that your child is safely handed to you, there is a new pick up procedure for parents who are parking and walking to pick up their children. Each grade level will have a designated (labeled) pick up spot in the waiting area on the north side of campus.  Therefore, GOLD LOT is DRIVE THROUGH ONLY starting Thursday August 28th. Remember that this is a new procedure. Please be patient and use caution while driving. 
Project Backpack
MLK has a program, called Project Backpack to help our families by providing food for children each weekend. If you are in need of a little help, please CLICK HERE to find out how to apply. We also need community members to donate supplies for the backpacks that are being sent home. 5th Grade Band and Orchestra!
5th graders, want to learn to play a band or orchestra instrument? Join the RRPS 5th grade band or orchestra! Band and orchestra students perform in three concerts and take a field trip to Hummingbird Music Camp. Band meets from 7:40-8:40 AM on Mondays and Thursdays with Mrs. Wadsworth at MLK, and orchestra meets from 4:00-5:15 PM on Mondays and Thursdays with Mrs. Ginther at Maggie Cordova. The fee is $80 for the year and includes rehearsals, a shirt, a music book, and the field trip. Students must also rent an instrument for an additional fee. For more information, please look for the yellow band and orchestra booklet and registration form sent home during testing days, or feel free to contact Mrs. Wadsworth at ewadsworth@rrps.net for more information. Classes begin Monday, August 25th, but you do not need an instrument yet. Hope to see you there! CLICK HERE for more information. 
Make Your Voice Heard and Help MLK Get a Much Needed Sidewalk!
Dear MLK Community, We need your help. As many of you know, there is currently no sidewalk along Nicklaus to Chianti. Unfortunately, there is no date set for the city to add this sidewalk. Please consider contacting our city council representative, Shelby Smith at ssmith@ci.rio-rancho.nm.us​ to share your concerns about making this project a priority for the safety of our children here at MLK. Visitor Sign-In Policy at RRPS Schools
As many of you already know, we are now using a Raptor sign-in process at many RRPS schools including MLK. Please know that when any visitors and volunteers come to our school campus, they are required (without exception) to sign in and out of the building/campus in the front office. Attention MLK Families! The Fall session of the PAWS after school classes are beginning on September 8, 2014.
