2014-15 Calendar Update
It has been determined that our students will meet and exceed the state’s required number of instructional hours for the 2014-15 school year without our having to schedule a make-up day for the February 27 "snow day."  The school year is still scheduled to end as planned on Friday, May 22.
RRPS Saves Energy!
Since 2008, The EnerG3 Project at RRPS has been actively reducing our energy consumption and raising awareness of the environmental impact of our operational processes. ESL Classes for Parents!
RRPS has partnered with Read West to offer ESL classes for parents!
Need or want to learn or improve your English? Join us for these classes at Rio Rancho Elementary or Colinas del Norte Elementary on Tuesdays from 6-8pm until May 11th!  Click for details.

"Future Dreams" - MLK Career Awareness Day (April 10)
We are looking for volunteers to present or guest speak on their career choices for student K-5 on our Career Awareness Day. Please see the attached sign-up form to be completed and turned in by Friday, April 17. If you have any questions about Career Day, Mrs. Stewart's contact information is also located on the attached form.

Camp Invention at Cielo Azule Elementary This Summer
Parents, we are beyond excited to announce that Camp Invention will hold a summer session at Cielo Azul Elementary from June 8th-12th (9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.).  Don't miss your chance to register your child and guarantee a spot before it's too late!  Please click here for early registration discounts and information.  
Pick-up and Drop-off Areas are Cell Free Zones
Thank you, MLK families for helping to make the student pick-up and drop-off procedures run smoothly! Please refrain from using your cell phones while in the drop off zone to assure maximum safety for our students and staff. Thank you.
PARCC Testing Begins On March 2
Students in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades will begin PARCC testing in March. Please help your child to be prepared for this opportunity to show what they have learned so far this school year by insuring that they have eaten a healthy breakfast, had plenty of sleep, and arrive to school on time. Annual Rio Rancho Public Schools Pow Wow
On Saturday, April 18, the V. Sue Cleveland Gym will echo with the traditional sound of drums, chants, and songs in celebration of Native American cultures. Please join RRPS families for the 8th annual RRPS Pow Wow. CLICK HERE for more information about this exciting all day event.

Donate Your Old Technology to Help MLK
Did you purchase some upgraded gadgets this holiday shopping season? Please consider donating your old phones, tablets, laptops and used ink cartridges to MLK. We send them to "Green School" and receive money for MLK to spend on classroom supplies. Bring donations to your child's teacher or the workroom. 
Abbreviated Day Schedule
An abbreviated day begins two hours later than the regular schedule.   Bus schedules are also delayed two hours.  Listen to radio stations KOB AM, KOB FM, KRST, BIG-I or watch TV Channels 4, 7, or 13 for the most up-to-date information.  You may also visit the RRPS Homepage. Notification is usually made by 5:30 a.m.  Should the cancelation of school be necessary, notification is usually given by 7:30 a.m.  Please avoid calling the school or the district office for this information.  It is recommended that families plan for such emergency closures. 
Project Backpack
MLK has a program, called Project Backpack to help our families by providing food for children each weekend. If you are in need of a little help, please CLICK HERE to find out how to apply. We also need community members to donate supplies for the backpacks that are being sent home. Visitor Sign-In Policy at RRPS Schools
As many of you already know, we are now using a Raptor sign-in process at many RRPS schools including MLK. Please know that when any visitors and volunteers come to our school campus, they are required (without exception) to sign in and out of the building/campus in the front office.
